Fun Friday Favorites: Fashion, fun fall foods, and trunk-or-treating

Wow.  I can’t believe it is October 31.  Like bats on a crisp Halloween night, time is flying.  (That sounded so poetic, didn’t it?)  We’ve had a fun week of festivities and today, we will continue to party on.

I’m so excited to visit the boys’ classrooms today and watch the school-wide costume parade, along with them having their classroom Halloween parties.  fun.  fun.  FUN.  Then, tonight we will be trick-or-treating like no other.  In the bitter cold, blustery winds.  Brrrr.

And now, for today’s Fun Friday Favorites…

1.  Layering Cardigan Sweater at Target –

I love this color!

I love this color!

My friend, Michelle, had this on at Bible Study on Wednesday and I just loved it!  She wore a gray t-shirt underneath with a cute necklace.  I normally go for the neutral colors, but this green is just a perfect color for fall!  And Target is having a buy 1 get 1 50% off sale.

2.  Open Faux Fur Vest at Target –

Presh.

Presh.

One word.  Presh.  Friends, I just love me a fur vest.  (I’m quiet aware of the poor grammar I just used.  But it had to be written that way.)  This one from Target is precious and so reasonable.  I have a faux fur vest that I bought back in the days of yore.  When I worked at the Gap at Westdale Mall.  I still have it.  It pays to be a hoarder, no lie.  Anyway, I wear mine with neutral colored long sleeve t’s or plaid shirts.  I just love fur vests.  If you recall, I blogged about The Dumont Museum and on that day, I wore my fur vest with plaid.

Me and my hubby and my boys and my fur vest. Four things I love.

3.  Mongolian Fur Vest from Target –

Super cute. I love the white.

Super cute. I love the ivory color.

I am very aware that this vest is walking a fine line between being stylish and looking like the Abominable Snowman.  But I really like it.  I’d wear it.  It looks so soft and warm and furry.  Make a statement.  Be bold.  You’d like divine in this vest.  Plus, Target’s price is just right.

4.  Fringe Trim Cardigan Ruana from Nordstrom –

Another stylish look for fall.

Another stylish look for fall.

I define this as a cardigan-ish poncho.  It’s a ruana.  A poncho-style outer garment typical of the Andes region of Venezuela and Colombia. *Source: wikipedia.org  And you thought this blog was just about fashion.  I’m a wealth of knowledge and I desire for us to grow as learners, expanding our vocabulary.  Or maybe I just found this fringe-trimmed poncho ruana to be cute on Nordstrom’s website.  A great price and I love the colors it comes in.

5.  Kraft candy corn marshmallows –

Mmmmm....

Mmmmm…

When I bought these, I was worried they would taste like candy corn.  They don’t.  (I like candy corn, but prefer the regular taste of marshmallows.)  These were perfect for making Halloween Rice Krispie bars because they made the bars orange.  I added some Halloween sprinkles and what an easy treat!  I’m thinking you can do this ‘trick’ for Thanksgiving, too.  Just use these marshmallows and then, through on some turkey or leaf sprinkles and call it good.  I do not blame these marshmallows for breaking off my tooth, as I wrote about it in yesterday’s blog post.  (My tooth problem)

6.  Papa Murphy’s pumpkin shaped pizza –

This is how we celebrate Halloween.

This is how we celebrate Halloween.

The past few years, we’ve made this an easy tradition on Halloween night.  We have Papa Murphy’s pumpkin shaped pizza.  I realize that warm, yummy soup would taste better, but the kids love this and it’s easy to throw in the oven.  Plus, when there is trick-or-treating to be done, one needs to HURRY and EAT THEIR SUPPER.

7.  Trunk-or-treating at Stonebridge Church –

Pumpkin Spice and everything nice...

Our display:  Pumpkin Spice and everything nice…

This year, our church tried something new.  On Wednesday night, we held a “Trunk-or-Treat” event in our church’s parking lot.  Complete with free hot dogs, chips, hot cocoa, popcorn, and of course…lots of candy.  We even had a drawing for four kids bikes that the boys and girls could win.

I’m trying to get our family more involved in our church.  We’ve attended this church for over ten years.  And it’s time we step up and participate.  So, we signed up to decorate a trunk of a car (we used our truck).  And friends.  It was so rewarding.  Not to just pass out candy to over 600 people (we stopped counting…all I can say is WOW!), but to meet more of our church family.  I passed out the candy and Hubby took the boys around to trick-or-treat at each of the 27 or so trunks.  These trunks were amazing.  There was a Bat Cave, Noah’s Ark, a cat looking four-wheeler, and so many more.  What was our theme, you ask?  Pumpkin Spice and everything nice.  You know me.  I love Pumpkin Spice!  We had scarecrows, pumpkins, and hay bales.  It turned out better than I imagined (because I do not have a creative bone in my body).  I have our friends, Wade and Michelle, to thank for all of the pumpkins and cornstalks.  And, she made that sign for me, too.  Super cute and she knows me well.

Trunk-or-treating was so much fun.  It was a great outreach to the community to show that we are here to serve, even in the simplest of ways.

And now, more Halloween fun today and tonight.  It’s like a never-ending week of fun and loads and loads of candy.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween and stay warm tonight!!  If you’re needing a warm costume idea…I recommend being a scarecrow.  Go to your basement and get your Gap bib overalls that you’ve saved (because you are a hoarder…kind of.  And because you knew they would be perfect for a costume 14 years later.).  Wear your overalls and dress in layers, stuff yourself with hay (raffia), use your MAC lipgloss (the one color that you never really cared for, but didn’t want to throw it away.  Again, saving this stuff comes in handy.) as paint for your nose and checks, and have fun!

Have a great weekend!
