Fun Friday Favorites: I LOVE hair products!

I seem to have gotten my days mixed up…I meant to post on here three times this week, but time flew and the snow blew and next thing I knew, it was time for me to write about my Fun Friday Favorites.

But just in case you wondered what my week was like, I can fill you in.  Hold your breath.  This is going to be glamorous.

We had a busy week of:  conferences for the boys, Bible study, wrestling practice, basketball practice, making Dipped Peanut Butter Ritz snacks, finishing Maxim’s turkey project (we disguised the turkey to look like Grandma Helen.  This was Maxim’s idea…with white batting for her hair and a paper clip twisted into “glasses”.), Nate’s math and reading homework, and piles of laundry that needed to be addressed.  So basically, your typical week at the Patterson household.

And what gourmet things did I whip up for meals, you ask?  Why, of course, we had my delicious maid-rites one night.  They’re so good and so easy!  I won’t brag about the other nights.  (Because drive-thru supper on Tuesday night due to both of the boys having practices is not glamorous.)  (And because I’m sure you all know how to cook hot dogs and mac-n-cheese.)

Now that I’ve completely bored you all, let’s move on to today’s Fun Friday Favorites.

Because hair is important, I would love to share with you my very favorite hair products.  I consider myself a “hair product junkie”.  If you are one also, then together….let’s stand tall and proud.  And admit our deep-rooted love for all manner of hair products.

1.  Kerastase Bain Chroma Riche shampoo –

The best shampoo EVER

The best shampoo EVER

This is absolutely the best shampoo ever.  It is for color-treated hair, but that’s not why I love it.  I love how it makes my hair soooo soft.  I realize this shampoo is pricey, but you have to understand something.  I don’t wash my hair every day.  I wash my hair every three days or so (sometimes I go longer.).  You see, I don’t have greasy hair.  (It might be due to all of the color I put into my hair.)  (No, I’m not a natural blonde.  Shocking, I know.  Just ask my high school or college friends.)  Since I don’t wash my hair every day, this shampoo lasts quite awhile.  *If you aren’t sure that you’ll LOVE this product, it can be purchased at the salon where I get my hair done in a travel size.  Try it.  You will LOVE it.

2.  Kerastase Masque Chroma Riche masque (conditioner) –

The BEST conditioner

The BEST conditioner

Once again, I realize this is pricey, but it lasts FOREVER.  I love how moisturizing it is!  And I need to share with you some research I did a few months ago.  This fall, I tried a different line of shampoo and conditioner.  (Because it smelled so good.) (Don’t even go there.  I realize how shallow that sounded.)  Well, I am used to not washing my hair every day as I explained above.  I used the shampoo and conditioner and I could NOT believe how greasy my scalp was from this new line I tried.  There was NO WAY that I would be able to go a day without washing my hair.  So.  It proved to me that the Kerastase line is absolutely amazing.  Friends, I’ve used it for over seven years.  Once you try Kerastase, you will never ever want to try something else.    * I used their smoothing line for years (which is wonderful), but switched things up and went to this hot pink color-treated line and I. am. smitten.  Love it.  *Again, if you want to try this product without buying the full size, then purchase a travel size of this conditioner.  You will wish you had gotten the big size, but if you aren’t wanting to be daring…then the travel size is a great place to start.

3.  Kerastase Nectar Thermique –

This heat protectant is a MUST.

This heat protectant is a MUST.

Once I’ve washed and conditioned my hair, this is the first thing I apply to my combed through wet hair.  If you flat-iron or curl your hair, you NEED a heat protectant.  This is great stuff and you only need a small amount.  Come on friends.  We must protect our hair.  It’s our duty.

4.  Kerastase styling products –

Styling creme that I love!

Styling creme that I love!

Smoothing oil

Smoothing oil

After I’ve ran the Nectar Thermique heat protectant in my hair, I take this Elixir Creme and Oleo-Relax Serum and make a “cocktail” of the two together.  Then, I run this mixture through my hair.  It smooths my hair and keeps it looking soft.  Then, I’m ready to dry and flat-iron my hair.  (* You can use the Oleo-Relax serum over your dry hair to tame your fly-aways if needed.  Sometimes, I’ll use this the next day or two, when I don’t wash my hair.  Just a little, but it tames my frizzies.)

5.  A great comb –

This comb and I.  We go way back.  I realize that not all of you have your favorite comb that you won back at prom in 1991 (or maybe it was 1990?).  Well, I do.  I’ve kept this comb because IT WORKS.  I love it so dearly.  Don’t mind that I had to make this a “vintage” photo so you wouldn’t see all of the hairspray that is permanently coated on it.  And yes, it’s missing the metal prongs at the bottom of the comb.  This comb and I.  We’ve been through many adventures.  It’s been to college with me, on spring break trips to Florida, to the snowy Rocky Mountains, the beaches of Hawaii, on our honeymoon to Aruba, the beaches of Mexico, snowmobile trips to Wisconsin, family vacations to St. Pete’s Beach…oh.  It goes with me everywhere.

Below is a picture of me (in March of THIS year) (and you thought this picture was from 1989!).  Hubby and I went to an 80’s theme fundraiser.  It. Was. Awesome.  Well, this comb and I…we totally rocked my hair and we went back to the good ol’ days of BIG HAIR.  I felt all BOSS with my hair so big and FULL.  * For this night, I had to revert back to high school days and use Aussie Sprunch Spray and Aussie Mousse.  Aqua Net hair spray wasn’t available at Target, otherwise, I would have used that cement stuff.

Showing off my favorite comb...the tool I used to get my hair all BIG and looking totally AWESOME.

6.  Another styling tool option –

This is a great comb.

This is a great comb.

So, since my retro comb isn’t available to purchase, I thought I’d share another styling tool that I use.  And this can be purchased on Amazon or at your local salon.  I really like it because every girl knows that you gotta tease your hair to get some volume.  This back-combing comb works well.  I think you’ll love this.

7.  Hair Shine and Hair Spray –

Aquage's Beyond Shine is a great spray when flat-ironing your hair.

Aquage’s Beyond Shine is a great spray when flat-ironing your hair.

I use Beyond Shine by Aquage when I flat-iron my hair.  I spray a section and then, flat iron that section.  This makes your flat-iron glide over your hair.

I love this hairspray!

I love this hairspray!

I love this hairspray!  It holds your style well, yet isn’t too sticky or gunky.  (I realize how fancy I am sounding.  But we all know…no one likes sticky and gunky hairspray!)

And here I am…freshly washed hair and styled!  Ready to go for the day.

* Please notice.  Besides having two darling boys photo bomb me, I took this picture because I realized something.  I have two different earrings on.  I can’t even.

Now, the only salon around here that carries the Kerastase line of hair products is MOD Salon.

And here’s some good news.  On Black Friday, November 28th, they will have their annual Black Friday sale in the morning from 9 – 11:00.  You can get 20% off of all your products!  And, they have a punch card, that helps you towards future products.

These punches add up!

These punches add up!

(If you are unable to get there, call them between 9-11:00 and order over the phone at 319-396-3117.  It’s a great deal!)  (** If you go there, please tell them I sent you!)

At this point, you’ve got a pretty good picture of me and how HIGH MAINTENANCE I am.  Listen, friends.  We all have our weaknesses.  I’m just grateful that Hubby loves me for who I am, even if it takes me an hour to get ready (on days that I wash my hair) (or maybe a little longer than an hour).

So.  What hair products do you LOVE?!  Share because I can’t be the only “Hair Product Junkie”.  I’d love to try a product you recommend.

And remember…the best way to be beautiful is to be caring, thoughtful, and full of love and grace.  Our hair makes us feel beautiful, but it’s what’s on the inside that truly shines and shows people love.  Be beautiful…be YOU!

Have a wonderful weekend!
