I love 80’s Christmas music

I realize not all of you procrastinate and leave ALL of your wrapping until now, but friends.  This is how I roll.  Actually, I don’t want to brag, but…I am doing quite well this year.  Usually, I’m wrapping on Christmas Eve.

Today, once the kids are off to school, I plan to wrap like a crazy elf.  In light of the holiday season, I feel it necessary to remind you that I am a BIG fan of 80’s music.  Including Christmas music of the 80’s.  BLESS.  Blame it on George Michael, Bono, and Bruce Springsteen.  It doesn’t help that for years, I was a retail junkie…working at various retail stores who played the best Christmas music around the holiday times.  To some people, it was a job.  For me, it was pure bliss.  I love fashion.  And.  Who wouldn’t love working with a group of positive, fashionably stylish friends who were able to fold jeans and hang sweaters like BOSS?  It was my life (and part-time job) and I absolutely loved it.  (You can’t take the retail out of a girl.)

One of my favorite jobs ever…working at The Brass Buckle in Penn Central Mall back when I was 15.  I could sell a pair of Lawman, Z Cavaricci, or Pepe jeans like NO OTHER.  The best part was getting to hear Band-Aid’s song “Do They Know It’s Christmas” played on our Muzak system.  The Brass Buckle and I stayed together until I went to college.  Then, we needed a break from each other and I needed to devote my time to studies and getting good grades.

My other favorite job…in my twenties, I was a Gap sales associate at Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids (yes, the mall that was recently torn down…*sigh*…memories of good ol’ days).  Though it was fifteen years after Wham’s hit was released, “Last Christmas” still gave me warm fuzzies every single time it played on our surround sound system.  I could be mid-sale of a pair of Gap overalls, some Long & Lean jeans, with a great pair of plaid pajamas to round out the sale and if “Last Christmas” started playing…it was all I could do to NOT serenade my customer.

So, today.  As I wrap and wrap like an elf on Red Bull or maybe four cups of coffee, I will be jamming to my 80’s Christmas music.  Because though it may be 2014, good Christmas songs will always live on.

And I can’t name just one Christmas song.  (Indecisiveness.  It may or may not be my problem.)  So, here are some of my top 80’s Christmas songs (in no particular order):

“Do They Know It’s Christmas” – Band Aid

“Last Christmas” – Wham!

“Merry Christmas Baby” – Bruce Springsteen

“Wonderful Christmas Time” – Paul McCartney

“Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” – U2

In honor of the 80’s, I have found two classic videos for your holiday enjoyment.

And.  I leave you with Band Aid’s 1984 classic video…

I hope you enjoyed today’s Christmas post.  Because it’s like, totally for sure, AWESOME.  Feel free to share what your favorite 80’s Christmas song is.  I’m sure it’s totally rad.

LYLAS,

Your 80’s loving gal…Angela Banae
