Weekend Recap: A little frog hunting

Well, it’s a Monday morning and I’m thrilled to say that we are NOT the proud owners of a pet frog.  Or frogs.  Because I’m sure that is what you were wondering.

Let me back up.  Saturday, I took Nate, Maxim, and their two neighbor friends to the farm and we did a little frog hunting.

Hubby had to get some field work done at the 240 and the boys were begging to go out to the 240 to run and play and explore, so I took them.

Patrick knew he’d have a busy day working on discing and plowing or grading or whatever.  Anyway, he’s working on getting his deer food plots ready.  What?  You mean not everyone knows what a deer plot is?  (Neither did I until he enlightened me five or ten or fifteen years ago.)

I like to think of deer plots as deer restaurants.  Yes.  He plants all kinds of radishes and clover and other delicacies that deer enjoy eating.  And when the food has grown, the deer just enjoy feasting on the delicious food.  Apparently this helps the deer to grow healthy and strong.  (Now, you are knowledgeable in deer plots, too.  You are welcome.)

So, the boys and I headed to the farm with their two neighbor friends.  These two boys were excited to finally get to see what the 240 is all about.

Can I tell you what is NOT cool?  Pulling up to the farm, having everyone pile out of my car, and hear the boys immediately hoot in laughter.  At the mules.  As in, the two mules that are…um…releasing some sexual desires upon each other.  Yes.  As these two big animals were showing some physical affection for one another, I just stood there in disbelief.  Really?  I didn’t even know what to say.  The FIRST thing the boys had to see was THIS?  Well, we all laughed and I texted their mothers to let them know this was not part of the plan.  Thankfully, the moms shrugged it off as a biology lesson.

After Biology Lesson #101, we went and threw some rocks into the pond.  Because that’s what one does when there are a plethora of rocks sitting by the edge of a pond.  And you know what?  I couldn’t believe Nate’s throw!  As in, he could chuck a rock so far that he put my rock throwing to shame.  Seriously, that kid threw rocks at least thirty feet farther than mine.

Nate's arm...he could chuck a rock like no other. Wow!

After some rock throwing, we got in the Ranger and headed to the back of the 240 to begin our frog hunting at the other ponds.  On our way, we stopped and saw Patrick working in the field.  He was all dusty and I could see he was loving this farming thing.  Totally in his element.

And so, our afternoon was spent exploring and frog hunting and enjoying the beautiful day.

At one point, Hayden had me text his mom to ask if he could bring home a frog.  He was really hoping she’d say yes.  And he thought his cat, Mr. Glitzy, would enjoy the frog, too.  🙂

Both moms texted back that keeping a frog wasn’t an option, so this made it easy for me to say no to Nate and Maxim.  Nobody could keep the frogs…it was a “catch and release” kind of day.

Me and my boys...love these two!

More exploring and perhaps, a little bit of soaked shoes (Logan got a little too close to the pond) was how the afternoon went.

Complete heaven for the four boys.  Nate and Maxim were thrilled to get to share the 240 with friends.  Because isn’t life always better with friends?
