Back in 2010, we were given the Elf on the Shelf book with the elf in the box. I was skeptical. Not thrilled, even though it was a gift from my bestie. But I was raised with manners, so I politely thanked Francy and accepted this Christmas gift. This meant work for me and I wasn’t sure I was up for it…
Who knew that years later, our elf would be such a loved member of our family. We love that little guy, errrr, elf. Elfie, named by Nate back in December of 2010, has been loved dearly by our family. We read the book right after each Thanksgiving, but oddly enough…our elf doesn’t fly back with Santa on Christmas Eve. NOOOOOOOO. That would be too easy. And that would be conforming to society and all of the Elf on the Shelf rules. Nope. Our elf elves stay with us through mid-January or February or whatever. #crazy
And yes. I said ELVES. Plural. Because last year, Maxim took his Christmas money and on the day after Christmas, we went to Von Maur and he bought a girl elf. Because he felt it wasn’t fair that I was the only girl in the family. #blesshisheart
So, in December of 2014, Peppermint Patty joined our family. And we’ve loved her like she’s always been with us because we are fair people. Who love elves.
Elfie and Peppermint Patty have been having a ball watching Nate & Maxim. They leave each night to report back to Santa the behaviors they’ve observed. The next morning, they return to our home and our in a new spot (usually). They can’t be touched or they’ll lose their elf magic and so, they are watched by two sweet boys and talked to and given notes to read and gosh darn, those two little elves are flat out adored!
It’s an understatement to say WE LOVE OUR ELVES.
Take a peek at the joys of having two elves…
Their first night back, they always bring gifts. Those sweet little elves 🙂
Elfie and Peppermint Patty brought baking ingredients, hot cocoa, and mugs their first night back from the North Pole.
Taking a sleigh ride and dressed up in a sparkly dress and a spiffy tux. #trendsetters
Peeking out of our Countdown to Christmas stocking
Then, when brotherly fights were brewing in the Patterson house and grumpy hearts were becoming more and more common, one morning, the boys woke to this…
The elves had picket signs… No more fighting please! Love, Elfie No more grumpies please! Love, Peppermint Patty
Sometimes, the elves play Hide-&-Go-Seek…
Peek-a-boo! Hiding behind the Kleenex
Hiding in our napkin basket
Last week, after we had our birthday pajama party at church, the boys came home with balloons. The elves drew on them and acted like they were going to pop them. The boys went to school wondering if the balloon would be popped when they got home…
Silly elves! DON’T pop that balloon!

Other times, they just like to hang around…
Most importantly, Elfie and Peppermint Patty know the truth…the Reason for the Season. Jesus, born in a manager, came to our world to be our Savior.
Celebrating Christmas…the REAL reason for the season. And they have little Bibles. #bless
Those elves are so smart. Last Saturday morning, they had a sleigh of gifts for Nate and Maxim. Perfect timing! We watched those Christmas movies that night! #perfectplanning
More gifts?! Soooo sweet 🙂
Elfie and Peppermint Patty soaking up some spa time…a bubble bath for Elfie and a cozy soft robe for Peppermint Patty or PMP as Maxim writes. 😉
Marshmallow bubble baths? Yes, please!
And today, the elves delivered a letter from the North Pole. From the big man himself…Santa.
Special delivery!
Inside were Santa letter kits 🙂
And so. Those are just a few pics of what our elves have been up to. How about you? Do you have any elves? If so, what have they been up to at your house?
Happy Tuesday from our elves and us to you! xo Angela Banae
