Fun Friday Favorites: Father’s Day gifts, fast food, and of course…some shoes

I know.  The cheerleading picture says it all.  I’m sure you recognize me…the blonde haired brunette cheerleader in the middle with her face all scrunched up and sporting some, umm…small eyebrows?  For the record…that would be back in the days when BIG eyebrows were “in”.  (We can all thank Brooke Shields for that.)  It was 1989.  We were in a nail-biter football game against Ackley-Geneva at the Dome in the semi-championship round.  That’s EXACTLY how I am feeling about getting rid of all of our junk in the basement.  Except NOT.  I’m delighted.  Thrilled to be pitching things.  (Oh, and we, the mighty Warhawks, pulled out a victory in that game…7-0.)  (I’m hoping for a victory against our basement, too.  I need to pull out a win here, folks.)

Well, as you know, we’ve been busy bees here.  Pitching and cleaning and sorting through junk.  Cleaning the basement is no fun, but it’s provided some good laughs.  I’ve come across some interesting things from long ago.

Look at my finds…my Gap employee discount card from 1999, glasses from I have NO idea how long ago, track tights (from either college or high school) that are approximately now six feet long due to the nature of the fabric and how old they are, and of course, a certificate of congratulations for my first new car I owned (the Malibu Barbie, I called it).

And now, for my Fun Friday Favorites.

1.  With Father’s Day fast approaching, wouldn’t it be nice to give that special dad in your life a new truck?  Patrick would love a new 2015 2500HD Diesel GMC truck sitting in our driveway with a big red bow on it along with a precious Father’s Day card from the boys and I.  Well.  We didn’t win the lottery, so we’ll all just keep dreaming…

Patrick's dreamy new truck we'd love to spoil him with. But this isn't feasible. So, he'll just have to keep on dreaming...

(I know.  The picture is so classy.  There are no “More Photos”.  I took it on my phone.  I’ve never pretended to be great with technology.)

2.  This next gift is more like it…a very reasonably priced key chain we had made for Daddy for Father’s Day.  For $6, you can’t beat it.  And we think he’ll love using it, rather than a tie or a mug (which neither of those would get used).  My friend told me about them…so she picked ours up for us.  She got the key chains at Cutting Edge in Palo.

A thoughtful gift that is so reasonably priced!

3.  You can never go wrong with a gift card for Father’s Day.  Patrick would love one from Scheel’s.  It’s kind of like getting a Jelly of the Month membership…it’s the gift that keeps on giving, only better.

4.  Fast food…well, it’s not one of my favorites except for the convenience factor.  With ball games this week, Vacation Bible School Sunday through Wednesday night, and basement cleaning, I haven’t done much cooking.  So, rather than share a recipe I’ve made this week (hot dogs & macaroni, walking tacos, or a frozen pizza), I thought I’d tell you about one of our favorites…we are BIG fans of Jimmy John’s subs.  We haven’t had any this week because I’ve been cooking (see previous sentence), but we really do love Jimmy John’s.

Mmmmm good!

Mmmmm good!

5.  These Lucky brand wedges are just the perfect shoe for summer!  My niece, Chloe, and my sister-in-law, Angie, had these on at Chloe’s graduation party and LOVE.  They are a perfect neutral color, so they would look great with white skinny jeans, denim colored skinny jeans, shorts…you get the picture.

The perfect summer shoe!

6.  Diggin’ in the Dumpster…so we’ve had the dumpster in our driveway this week since we are cleaning out our basement (which I may have talked about for the thirtieth time) and it’s almost like a playground.  And.  I cannot keep the boys out of it.  They love to ‘explore’ and see what treasures we are throwing away.

Oh, the treasures they found that they wanted to keep...

They keep finding stuff that they want to keep.  ABSOLUTELY NOT!

7.  And one of my very favorites…Summer.  (Though it’s technically not summer until June 21.)  But with school out, I’m happy to have our boys home.  We are adjusting to less responsibilities and yet, more responsibilities.  Less meaning…no school, no running to meet the bus, no rushing to get ready in the morning.  More responsibilities meaning…still having the boys read each day, working on math and writing EVEN though school is out, making beds EVERY day, and other responsibilities that will only benefit us all.  I love this time of year.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!!  And Happy Father’s Day to all of you dads out there!

Your hair might have changed but your actions/reactions have not. Too funny & don’t you miss the big hair! The 80’s were the best!
